Title: The Queen
One of a kind sculpture in ceramic clay. Mixed media finish. All my sculptures have a ceramic glaze or stain but, I also add in the end a stain and color pencil effect giving the sculpture a illustrative quality.
The leaves are actual impressions of leaves in a large garden I am resurrecting. This garden has been the driving inspiration of the location of my beings. The veins on the wings are impressions from a huge Catalpa tree leaf, its leaves get up to 15 inches long. Many of the trees in this garden are well over 100 years old.
Feisty (of a person, typically one who is relatively small or weak) lively, determined, and courageous. An attribute I enjoy.
Queen Nymphalia is a Butterfly whom enjoys her name and position, she finds humor in everything and she challenges everyone to to a verbal dual. She is feisty, fun loving and self important, and she loves to tease those who also think they are.
